(Leap day reader no photo) The 29th of February is known as a leap day and it is added to the calendar during a leap year. This extra day is added every four years to bring the solar year of 365¼ days into line with the calendar year of 365 days. One leap day traditions include, the one day of the year on which, traditionally, women can propose to men. In Scotland it is thought unlucky to be born on a Leap Year's Day.
(Goodbye 41) it's not just leap day today. Today KPVM says goodbye to our analog signal channel 41. We are leaping into the future with our digital channels 46.1, 46.2, 46.3 and 46.4.
(Nasdaq reader no photo) The Nasdaq composite index briefly broke through 3,000 today for the first time since the collapse in dot-com stocks more than a decade ago. Stocks ended lower, but it was still the best February on Wall Street in 14 years. The milestone for the Nasdaq, heavy with technology stocks, came a day after the Dow Jones industrial average closed above 13,000 for the first time since May 2008.
(Matthew Bates reader with photo) Decorated war veteran and prisoner of war in World war II Matthew Bates, has passed away. The local who spoke of his experiences at many Veteran's functions died on February 19th He was 94 years old. He received numerous medals during his military career including, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Prisoner of War Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Services Medal, American Campaign Medal, Europe-Africa-Mideast Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the French Croix de Guerre.
(T-Town reader no photo) Terrible's Town and Terrible's Lakeside Casino will close from 5 p.m. today until 8 a.m. tomorrow morning, for the acquisition of the two casinos by Golden Gaming, Inc. The former owner, Affinity gaming, will come out and do a final count at the cage, and of all the assets. When the casinos reopen, there will be free cake and champagne to celebrate the takeover from Thursday until Saturday, reoccurring each day at 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
(Business Licenses reader no photo) Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church on Gamebird almost didn't have their Friday fish fry. The Town of Pahrump is now requiring all churches and non-profits to obtain a business license. The cost of the license is $5.00.

(Fire update) On Monday's newscast fire chief Scott Lewis spoke of an allegedly intentional vehicle fire which occurred on Leslie and Highway 372.
(Al Balloqui reader with photo) Al Balloqui who is the Community Economic Development Manager has decided to resign his position. Working for the town for the past three years he has decided to accept a job in Kansas. Town Manager Bill Kohbarger will be assuming his job duties if and when a replacement will be found. His last day is set to be the 23rd of March.
(McDonalds) A leap day special at McDonald's today has many standing in line to get a deal.

(Softball PT2) We brought you a story yesterday about a softball team who believed they made arrangements to pay the fee required to play in this year's league, one day late. However upon making the payment, as promised, they were told, they could not play.

(Announcements) The Friends of the Library is having a big book sale at the Pahrump Nugget Friday from 9 to 5, and Saturday 9 to 3. They will have paper back and hard cover books for sale.
On Sunday March 4th there will be a Ladies Day Only Event at the Lone Wolf Outdoor Shooting Range. Bring your guns, targets, ear and eye protection. It will be from 9 am to noon with a pot luck lunch following. FMI call 910-9663
