Lobby sues Registrar over party hopping

A group of civil society organizations have now sued the Registrar of Political Parties for what they say is her failure to enforce party discipline and more specifically party hopping. In their suit filed under the certificate of urgency, the applicants, calling themselves Friends of Raila note that in recent days, the country has witnessed the defection of top leaders from the parties that sponsored them to parliament. The applicants now want the court to give orders for the Registrar to crack the whip on politicians who have defected from their parties without giving up their parliamentary seats. The bid, if successful could see more than 100 MPs lose their parliamentary seats.
