The spokesman for Greece's extremist far-right Golden Dawn party physically assaulted two left-wing deputies on live television during a morning political show.

A public prosecutor ordered his immediate arrest following the incident on Thursday.

Golden Dawn spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris had taken offence at a reference by radical left Syriza party member Rena Dorou to a court case that is pending against him.

He hurled a glass of water across the table over Dorou when she said there was a "crisis of democracy when people who will take the country back 500 years have got into the Greek parliament."

He then turned on prominent Communist Party member Liana Kanelli, hitting her around the face three times.

Greek Far-Right Politician Assaults Female Rival Live On TV 6/7/2012

An MP from Greece's far-right party Golden Dawn faces arrest after slapping a female MP on live television.
In the shocking video Ilias Kasidiaris throws a glass of water at left-wing MP Rena Dourou then slaps Communist MP Liana Kanelli three times during a televised debate with the two politicians.

During the fracas the show's host Giorgos Papadakis attempted to quell the violence, running towards Kasidiaris and shouting "no, no no."A Greek government spokesperson condemned Kasidiaris' violence, saying it was "an attack against every democratic citizen."

"The government condemns in the most categorical way the attack by Golden Dawn spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris against Liana Kanelli and Rena Dourou."
Golden Dawn, which has been described as a neo-Nazi party, won almost 7% of the vote in May's elections.
Its leader Nikos Michaloliakos has denied the holocaust, questioning the number of Jews murdered and saying there were no gas chambers in concentration camps
"There were no ovens, this is a lie ... there were no gas chambers either," he said during a TV interview.

BBC News - Greek clashes after pensioner suicide 2012

Protesters have clashed with riot police in Athens hours after a pensioner shot himself dead outside the Greek parliament.

The man, named in the Greek media as 77-year-old Dimitris Christoulas, killed himself in the city's busy Syntagma Square on Wednesday morning.

In a suicide note reported by Greek media, he accused the government of reducing his pension to nothing.
